One of my friends, Andrew Hinds, recently posted this on Facebook. I thought that it was worth a repost. It is definitely an area that I need to work on.

Of all our daily activities, our on-road experience has to be one of the worst for bringing out our selfish human nature. What is driving us when we tailgate that slow-poke on the way to work? What is so important that we have to zig-zag in and out of traffic to be in the fastest lane? What do people think when they read your bumper sticker “Honk if you love Jesus” and the only honking they hear from you is at the car that just merged in front of you? Are we so concerned about our own agenda that we can’t show a little Christian courtesy?

Jesus told us “Either make the tree good, and his fruit good: or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit” (Matt. 12:33). So how can we expect to direct others to Christ if we don’t live out our Christianity every day? “Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter” (James 3:11)? Who knows how many people we turn further from God by living inconsistently as a Christian?!

The world is watching us! And those of us with an Anabaptist heritage stand out even more from the many who are just nominal Christians. We MUST be careful that we don’t set a bad example of our Savior by allowing our selfish desires to influence our decisions on the road or wherever we are. “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths” (Pr. 3:6). He has the power to curb our selfish habits but we must first acknowledge Him as Lord. Lord over our phones, appetites, recreation, singing, steering wheel….you name it! Lord over everything!

So how is your driving record with Jesus? It seems like a small thing, but I believe it’s something Christians need to work on. I know I do! I want to retake driver’s ed with King Jesus as my instructor!
